Human Factors Engineering for The New Western Sydney Airport Metro

The Challenge

To enable the new Western Sydney Airport, a new dedicated Metro Rail Line is being designed and built. The 23-kilometer new railway will link St Mary's with the new Bradfield Metro Station , connecting travellers from the new airport to the rest of Sydney’s public transport system. Siemens, as part of Parklife Metro are delivering technology for the six new stations, 12 new metro trains, core rail systems and the stabling and maintenance facility at Orchard Hills.

What We Did

Plan Safe are managing the entire Human Factors program for the new WSA Metro, including:

  • Development of a comprehensive and tailored Human Factors Integration Plan
  • Planning and facilitating specialist Human Factors analysis such as:
    • Task Analysis
    • Human Error Analysis
    • Workload Assessment
    • Human Reliability Analysis (HRA)
  • Management of the Siemens Human Factors Issues Register
  • Development of Human Factors Requirements for design and operations of the WSA Metro
  • Preparation of a detailed Human Factors Assurance Report that provides evidence of the HF work completed during development

The Outcome

Design and construction of the new WSA Metro is ongoing, and our detailed Human Factors work is contributing to a safer and improved environment for staff and passengers when the WSA Metro line items for service.
